Sunday 1st July

Tony keeps an eye on wind guru to see when its possible to move on. We needed 12 hrs and he found a window of weather suitable with the right tides to set sail to the next place.

So on wed 27 th june we motored to the outer harbour to fuel up with diesel & water at 1630 hrs.

Early to rise 0330 to leave at 0415 day 12 Thursday 28th we left Padstow through the River Camel. As we got towards the rock the sea state was moderate to rough and as I brought the ball fender in off the bow my feet left the deck. I didn't do any more fenders.

We knew the tide was against us for a couple of hours. We recognised the landmarks of the chart, passing Newquay the sea state was mod to slight. We took turns to rest and passing numerous mega rocks came to Pendeen Tony went for a kip whilst I navigated Between Longships & Landsend.

We arrived at Penzance inner harbour 5 pm and rafted up, then the bad weather came.

Latest Update

Since arriving on 28 September we spent 2 weeks cleaning and repairing the boat then had a few days holiday cruising some local bays and exploring. Our journey here had been quite strenuous as we needed to do as many miles per day as possible, so our holiday was just to enjoy ourselves and relax. It was wonderful except for one bay where we encountered a large swarm of mosquitoes. We moved into our friends apartment in Altinkum and will be there until around 15 January. The address is:

Gamlik Mahallesi
421 Sokak
Banaz Apt No. 1/4
Altinkum 09310
Didim
Aydin
Turkey

Mail takes a minimum of 10 days to arrive. We are still very busy applying for our residence permits and having meetings with officials to apply for permission to build a church here in Didim. There is a piece of government land allocated in the area but no one has ever applied for it and we are told that this will be the first piece of government land ever used to build a Christian church, all other churches are on privately owned land so non of the officials know what to do and our application is going very slowly but positively. The Turkish people are very helpful and say we should have a church to worship in the same way they have mosques to worship in, in other countries. We are therefore very hopeful of having full permission sometime in the New Year.

For those of you who have written in to our blog, we have asked Paul who runs it for us to let us have your email addresses and we will reply to each one of you individually. We are so happy that you all took the time to write to us. God bless you and have a lovely Christmas and Happy New Year.

Email received 10th September..
.

Here are some pics for the site, we had some real problems anchoring one night in a storm our anchor dragged and we were on our way quickly out to sea before we recovered the situation. Another night we were again anchored in a storm and the Italians came and moored much too close, within 10 mtrs. We were close to hitting another boat all night it was a real nightmare.

The cost of marina berths in Italy can be as low as £20 but as high as £90 for 1 night it is prohibitive when you are sailing for months at a time!!
Our Phones have been blocked too, they want us to buy Ital fones!! so we can only use text.

Update Received Monday 18th July

From Sauzon we decided to go to go to Port Joinville on the island of Ile d’Yeu but the day was so beautiful, the sea was calm but no wind at all, this is the Bay of Biscay! That we decided after checking the weather forecast with Paul to continue and sail overnight to La Rochelle making a trip length of around 120 miles.

We passed Ile d’Yeu around 6pm and headed for La Rochelle had dinner on deck in wonderful sunshine 3 hours later the sky went black and we were heading into a storm. There was a lot of lightning which went on until about 4am the wind was not strong but it came from all directions fortunately the sea stayed calm and we arrived safely after a night of prayers at 9am in the safe city marina in La Rochelle where we will stay a couple of days to catch up on washing, servicing the engine, replacing gaz etc and a few minor repairs as well as trying to get internet access to deal with outstanding business, life must go on!! It’s tough but we’ll make it.
